The Malkia Strikers squad, who are set to take part in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships, will have veteran setter Jane Wacu training alongside them once again. Wacu, who has been recovering for the last two weeks from a small fracture to her hand, will be joining her team as training for the international event intensifies.
The Malkia Strikers are currently sitting in the same pool roster as Puerto Rico, Brazil, Serbia, Kazakhstan, and the Dominican Republic, all of which are in Pool D. This also marks the first time in over eight years that the Malkia Strikers will be participating in an international tournament after having qualified alongside current African champions Cameroon. The team, which is being coached by Japhet Munala, is in residential training for the time being, and are expected to leave from home for Japan within the next few weeks.
Once in Japan, the team will be taking part in an intense 10-day training camp before their first opener for the championship, where they are set to face Kazakhstan. Japan, who will be hosting the event for the third time in the last 12 years, will be holding four main competition stages of the championship at the Yokohama Arena, in Yokohama.
There are currently 24 national teams that will be taking part, which include Japan, the United States, Serbia, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Brazil, the Netherlands, China, Bulgaria, among many more.
