David King has reportedly told the Kangaroos to look for experience when hunting down a new senior coach to replace Rhyce Shaw – and experience even as far back as Mick Malthouse. Shaw recently announced his exit for reasons relating to the taking of personal leave, only to this week announce both parties to have agreed to part ways with immediate effect.
Replacing Shaw should be a veteran capable of settling the ship, King recently told a prominent sports show. Their new coach should be made up mainly of experience, as well as be a leader able to take the bullets of losing a few games in the long run, explained the North Melbourne champion.
King was however quick to add to the conversation the concern he and the Roos felt regarding Shaw’s wellbeing – Shaw’s own health well-being as well as that of his family. Shaw’s announcement did not come as a surprise, confirmed the footy legend, with everyone having known about the challenges faced by the former North Melbourne coach for quite some time.
As far as the matter of urgency is concerned, King said time is actually very much on the side of North Melbourne. There’s plenty of time to find a replacement before heading into a busy trade period, explained King, and as such, instead of rushing into a new appointment, the focus should be on making the right decision.
Not even players currently looking for trades of potential moves should be of significance within the context of a new senior coach, said the two-time premiership star.
