A Brief History Of The Grand National Race
The history of this incredible event dates back all the way to the beginning of the 1800s. It was in February 1839 that a horse named “Lottery” became the very first winner of the then so-named Grand Liverpool Steeplechase. This race would later be renamed the Grand National and is one of the top horse racing betting events around the world, highly popular with Australian punters online.
For the first four years of its existence, the race had been a weight-for-age event, after which famous handicapper Mr Edward William Topham converted it into a handicap in 1843. Today, the racecourse is owned and managed by Jockey Club Racecourses.
Recent Winners & Grand National Odds
Horse racing betting odds is an interesting field of study for many bettors. And Grand National odds are no exception. Grand National 2024 betting is now on offer at leading Aussie sportsbooks.
Even though it can be tricky for bettors to accurately predict Grand National champions due to the handicapping assigned to horses by the British Horseracing Authority, it can be useful to take closer look at past and recent winners. An outstanding modern-day hero in this regard is Tiger Roll, who emerged victorious in both 2018 and 2019. Other recent winners include Noble Yeats (2022), Minella Times (2021), One For Arthur (2017), Rule The World (2016), Many Clouds (2015), and Pineau De Re (2014).
Interesting to note is that Noble Yeats went into the 2022 edition of the event at odds of 40/1, trailing way behind the likes of Minella Times and Snow Leopardess, both of which were positioned at odds of 8/1.
