College Rose Bowl 2018

It’s officially known as the College Rose Bowl 2018 but it may just have well have been promoted as Georgia vs. Oklahoma, and that would have been enough to sell the tickets out fast.  Be that as it may, the College Rose Bowl is where it all happens for up and coming young college football stars.  We take a look at some key players expected to be the rain-makers this year.

The Brightest Stars In The Football Sky

Baker Mayfield will be setting the pace for the Oklahoma Sooners, while the Georgia Bulldogs will be looking to Roquan Smith, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to show the way.  From experience we have learnt that it is often not the superstar pace-makers, but rather the general playmakers who make for the moments we cherish for years to come.

Will Johnson, Oklahoma

Johnson hasn’t exactly been gracing the headlines but has been a defence force to be reckoned with in Oklahoma’s last couple of games.  What’s more, he recorded eight tackles in each of his last two contests.  Nothing to be smirked at, that’s for sure.

CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma

Freshman CeeDee Lamb impressed when he caught a total of nine balls for 147 yards when Oklahoma played Texas Tech.  Lamb is, with all due respect, Oklahoma’s prime decoy.  If he manages to draw the attention of Mayfield during the first half, it will create the space for Brown and Andrews to make a break for it and play it big.

Lorenzo Carter, Georgia

Carter is a senior and well versed in the art of finding a way into the backfield.  A Smith-Carter partnership in leading the defence could end up being just what Georgia needs.  It’s vital that Murray be made extremely uncomfortable if Georgia are going to get anywhere.  The trick will be to get Murray to a hot and heavy place early on in the game.  This will swing the odds in Georgia’s favour in a big way.

Javon Wims, Georgia

If Georgia are to reach a balance in the offence, it will be critical that Wims and Terry Godwin find space to occupy in Oklahoma’s secondary.  The tricky bit will be for Wims to not get lost in the shuffle of Georgia’s two high-calibre running backs.  A bit like being too good for your own good.

This New Year’s day is going to be an exciting start to 2018.
