Six of the eight quarter-finalists for the 2018 Hockey World Cup have been chosen. Olympic champions Argentina are set to take on England, while France will be fighting it out against Australia.
The Netherlands will be facing Canada in the fourth and last crossover match, with the winner taking on hosts India in the quarter-finals.
Both the Canadians and the Dutch have had fairly contrasting results in the World Cup so far. Canada managed to finish in third place in Pool C after they lost 2 and drew one from their three matches. The team showed more enthusiasm against the Belgium team – where were ranked much higher – for their first match, but it eventually ended in a 2-1 loss for the Canadian team. Their second match against South Africa saw them finish with 1-1 thanks to a goal by Scott Tupper.
Their next game against India went extremely well, with level scores after three quarters. However, a flurry of goals by the Indian team forced Canada to lose the game 5-1, with the team ultimately finishing with only one point from their three previous matches. The Netherlands, on the other hand, were the highest ranked team in Pool D with a ranking of 4. They started with a strong game against Malaysia 7-0. They lost to Germany in their next match 4-1, while their 3rd pool fixture against Pakistan saw them up their total score of 5-1 as the Netherlands fought to take their position back.
