Concerns Over Road Conditions At American MotoGP

April 23, 2018 by

The American Grand Prix is well underway, but some of the racers that participated in the event from last year have voiced their concerns over the conditions of the tracks that they’re meant to be racing on. Those that participated in the event a year ago complained to officials about the bumpy roads, with some, like Dani Pedrosa, complaining that the surface was more like a Supercross track and that he wouldn’t be prepared to ride on the track again in the future.

One of the reasons for the bad quality of the track is due to the type of soil that it has been built on, which is known to the locals as black gumbo, and has been slowly degrading the quality of the road since it was first built in 2012.

Officials have attempted to fix the problem with heavy road construction teams that have been sent out to try and sand the road down. While this was meant to make the track much smoother, it has also exposed the under-surface of the track, which they predict will be extremely abrasive on the tyres of the vehicles that will take part in the Grand Prix.

The surface has yet to be properly inspected by the MotoGP official safety representatives and tyre supplier Michelin. Many believe that there will be extreme solutions implemented in case the track is in bad condition, including mandatory pit stops. The public and the riders won’t know until the opening day of the event and the subsequent safety commission meeting.
