Adam Scott Takes On Alligators To Save Par

March 22, 2021 by

Aussie golfer Adam Scott gives new meaning to not being afraid to navigate the odd “disaster hole”.

Scott recently waded into a lake crawling with alligators to save par during the first round of the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic in Florida. The Aussie had only been playing his second shot of the day when his ball found the watering hole beside the green. But instead of accepting a penalty, which is probably what most others in his position would have done, Scott simply removed his shoes, rolled up his trousers, removed his shoes and socks, and waded right in, ultimately playing the ball as if it were a bunker shot.

Since Scott had bogeyed the opening hole, accepting a penalty instead of “wading in” would have seen him lag much further behind countryman Matt Jones than the eight shots he ended up with. Jones currently holds a three-shot lead for having aced a course-record 61.

Jones’ performance saw him match the standard set by Brian Harman during the second round of the Honda Classic of 2012, and was even a shot better than the 62 played by Tiger Woods during that same year.

Matt Jones had four birdies in a row on holes 2-5, and also went on to finish with birdies on the final three holes. He not even once dropped a single shot despite Florida’s notorious windy conditions.

Jones and Scott are currently ranked world No. 83 and 25, respectively.
