Gearing Up for the Singapore Grand Prix

Following the conclusion of the Italian Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix will get underway. The event is set for the 17th of September. The GP is run at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Marina Bay and at 5.065km it is one of the shorter courses on the F1 calendar.

Last week the Land Transport Authority of Singapore revealed their plans for public road access since the GP’s tack is a temporary course that is set up on public roads. The race will be a night race and it ensures a spectacle in Marina Bay each year.

The local authorities have also planned a host of live bands to perform in Marina Bay on the days leading up to the race.

The Track Record

The Marina Bay track is still quite new, the Singapore GP was first run in 2008, but the great work by the local authorities have made the last few years run like clockwork. The race will be a 61 lap battle, with the track record being held by Daniel Ricciardo at 1:47:187.

Last year Nico Rosberg took the pole position with a time of 1:55:48 a mere 0.488 ahead of Ricciardo. These two racers dominated the course ,pushing 8 seconds past Lewis Hamilton, 10 seconds past Raikkonen and a stunning 27 seconds past Vettel. Ricciardo’s team mate with Red Bull, Max Verstappen, languished in 6th place, almost 72 seconds behind the pack.

Ricciardo Comes Home

With Hamilton still flying high after he took the Belgium Grand Prix, there is a good chance that he will at the top of the driver rankings following his performance at the Italian Grand Prix. Marina Bay however has been claimed by Red Bull and Ricciardo.

Not just on the course but also with their media presence. Red Bull are planning a massive media campaign ahead of the Singaporean Grand Prix and this may give Ricciardo the positive winning mindset he needs to snatch victory from Vettel and Hamilton, his main competition.
