Michael Smith has made it through to the third round at the PDC World Darts Championship, and is set to face either Gabriel Clemens or John Henderson.
Smith was under par a few times during his game, but didn’t have to put too much effort into seeing off the Bomb, and will be moving through after only dropping one set. The first set started with no dominance from either side, but Smith managed to claim it thanks to a second 180 and double ten in the deciding leg, and with 75% on the doubles. He began to take the lead in the next set, sealing it with a three-one, which included a 132 checkout on the bull.
The bomb didn’t give up too easy with the missed double from Smith that allowed Meulenkamp to halve the deficit. Meulenkamp took out 100 to lead the next set, but Smith streak to the win shortly after despite not looking his best.
Talking after his match, Smith said that he didn’t take a lot of positive from his latest game, but that he got the job done nevertheless, and that he can no go home and enjoy Christmas while making preparations for his next game. He added that he’s getting married in the new year, and that he wants his Fiancé to be the first woman in history to be waiting for him in the aisle with a World Championship Trophy.
