Long-time rival and vocal non-fan Wayne Bennett has reportedly been cleared of any suspected involvement in the shocking rumours spread about former Broncos coach Anthony Siebold.
Siebold had apparently earlier on this week handed over to the NRL an extensive list of names identified by an investigation launched into the slanderous rumours spread about the former Brisbane coach and about his family.
The former Broncos coach some time ago allegedly saw no other option but to hire on a team of legal and cybersecurity experts in an attempt to identify the persons responsible for the vile and wild accusations recently made about him and his family on social media. Speculation regarding Bennett’s possible involvement in the spreading of the rumours ran rife after it was revealed by lawyer Dave Garratt that a “prominent” NRL name had come up and proved of significant interest in the investigation.
The investigation was allegedly paid for out of the disgraced former Brisbane coach’s own pocket. Going forward, he may either opt to seek legal recourse by pursuing further legal action, also from his own pocket, or alternatively allow the NRL’s Integrity Unit to handle the matter. This is allowable in the event that a fellow rugby player, coach, or team official is suspected to be linked to a saga such as the one faced by Siebold.
What the investigation did reportedly reveal, is the involvement of three separate people in the defamation of Siebold and family. The names of the three people identified have apparently now been handed to the NRL’s Integrity Unit. All three people are suspected of having links with the NRL.
