No Retirement Plans Says Lewis Hamilton

November 18, 2020 by

British Formula 1 all-star Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that instead of calling it quits once his contract with Mercedes runs out later this year, he’s about to sit down across from Mercedes team-boss Toto Wolff at the big-money negotiations table.

The fact that Hamilton has waited until now to agree to try and hash out what will probably end up another mega money deal has left many speculating over the possibility of a 2020 retirement for the world number one. The Brit is one of the last remaining drivers on the grid currently without any plans or future-contract written in ink – a delay he has blamed on his recent chasing of his seventh world championship title.

Snubbing all talk of a possible retirement from Formula 1 racing, Hamilton earlier this week said that instead of considering stepping down, he would “love to stay” and that much work remained to be done – not to mention even the grabbing of a record eighth world title.

Saying that he feels as if he’s “only just begun” doing the work that lies before him, Hamilton expressed the notion of becoming more closely involved with the equality and socio-humanitarian side of the sport. He also spoke of a desire to help the sport become more sustainable than what it has been in recent times. Being part of at least the initial stages of all of that would make of him a happy man, said the champion race car driver.

Hamilton is over the course of the next few days expected to sit down with Mercedes to try and reach a new mutually-beneficial deal.
