Lewis Hamilton Wins Russian Grand Prix

October 3, 2018 by

Mercedes driver and four-time defending champion Lewis Hamilton has continued his current winning streak by beating out his opponents at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. While the British driver started out at second place on the grid, help from teammate Valtteri Bottas, who allowed Hamilton to overtook him and then defended him from Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, saw Hamilton finish in first place.

Hamilton has further increased his current lead in this year’s F1 world championship to 50 points after he claimed his latest victory with the help of some Mercedes tactics. Russian president Vladimir Putin was present at the event, and sat next to former F1 racer Bernie Ecclestone, despite arriving late to the Sochi Autodrom.

Bottas, who started in first on the grid, was reportedly unhappy that he’d been ordered to give up a potential victory as e came in 2.5 seconds behind Hamilton to claim second place. Vettel came in third, and Hamilton’s point-lead over the German extended even further.

Hamilton’s latest win is his third in Russia, and his fifth in six races, making a total of 70 in his career so far, and it looks like the British racer may just take the title again this year.

Kimi Raikkonen came in fourth for Ferrari just ahead of Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who was celebrating his 21st birthday, and managed to climb ahead of the pack with an impressive driver after starting at 19th place on the grid.
