Team Mercedes have told reporters that they are aware their main competitors Ferrari are looking to improve their performances on the track in the Hungarian Grand Prix. The team has also admitted that they may struggle with upcoming races.
Lewis Hamilton took the lead in the last events that took place at the German GP, and pushed Mercedes to the top of the roster. Although Ferrari had been in control for much of the race that took place at the German Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel had an unfortunate crash that allowed Hamilton to pick up the leading spot.
Toto Wolff, boss of Mercedes, stated that him and his team need to stay levelheaded after their victory, and that it was important that they didn’t lose focus on their ultimate goal. He told reporters that even though they had taken the lead in both championships, he still considers Ferrari a strong opponent, and that they are the team to beat in upcoming races.
He also confirmed that Ferrari had been gaining 0.5 seconds on the straights in Germany, which was a direct result of the team making tweaks to their engine power. Wolff added that it’s been a difficult championship, especially when faced against a team that has seemingly gone from strength to strength. Wolff stated further that for every improvement Mercedes had added to their engine, Ferrari had done the same, and that the two teams were evenly matched at the moment.
