Mexican GP Promoter Predicts Sell-Out

September 24, 2018 by

The latest Grand Prix, which is taking place in Mexico, is expected to sell out all its current tickets before the start of the race, according to a race promoter who has stated that ticket sales are going extremely well.

2017’s race attracted a total number of 337,043 attendants over the race weekend, according to Rodrigo Sanchez, director of marketing and public relations. Sanchez stated that from the way tickets are selling out at the moment, Formula 1 can expect the same turnout.

Sanchez told reporters that they expected 135-136,000 tickets sold just for the Sunday alone, with around 340,000 for the weekend, which is capacity for the event. Mexico returned as an F1 host in 2015 after a 23-year long absence, and since then the GP events they’ve held have been consistently well attended. Sanchez further confirmed that they may consider other options for extending their current deal once this year’s event has come to a close.

The Mexican Grand Prix faces some competition for ticket sales, as the Circuit of the Americas, held in Texas, will be taking place one week earlier. Sanchez says that a large portion of attendants will be from South American countries, and the two events shouldn’t clash too much.

He explained that one of the countries that visits a lot if Argentina, and that most countries within South America have a strong motor-sport following, but the bulk of their audience comes from Florida, Texas, and California.
