Formula 1 boss Ross Brawn has come forward to reporters to explain that Sebastian Vettel’s string of mishaps and collisions are not a coincidence, and that his behaviour is an indication of a driver that is highly-strung and desperate to try and steal the lead away from his main competitor, Lewis Hamilton.
This comes after Vettel’s latest incident with Daniel Ricciardo at the United States Grand Prix, where an error on Vettel’s part during a pass caused him to collide with Ricciardo, sending the former into a spin. It was almost the exact same mistake he made with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in their previous race.
It’s part of a series of errors that Vettel has made this season, such as a spin-out he was involved in after colliding with Lewis Hamilton during the opening lap in Italy. Alongside this, Vettel has crashed in Valtteri Bottas at the start of the French Grand Prix, and lost his lead in Germany due to another accident.
His many errors have ensured Hamilton’s lead for this season, leaving him on the brink of earning his fifth world title. Brawn, who was once the technical director at Ferrari, and saw the team win on several occasions, has said that he may have to pull Vettel from upcoming races if his performance continues to be erratic.
Hamilton is set to earn the drivers championship title at the Mexican Grand Prix if Vettel fails to take the lead.
