England has had a tough sports year, but even though the national team didn’t see victory at the finals of the FIFA World Cup, there is hope that their national hockey team will have better luck in the upcoming Hockey World Cup.
Alex Danson, captain of the hockey team for England, has attended an FA conference where she received some advice from Gareth Southgate. The captain believes that her conversations with Southgate has better prepared her team for the event, which will be taking place at the London Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre. Their first game will have them up against India.
England is to host this year’s international hockey tournament for the first time ever, and many believe that the English team has never been in a better state to have a solid chance of winning. The national team is currently ranked at number 2, and captain Danson is one of eight members from Britain who was part of the gold-winning side in the 2016 Olympics.
Danson told reporters that it’s a privilege to have attended the Football Association conference, and it gave her the opportunity to share and receive insights from Gareth Southgate. She added that she had learnt a lot about how professional tournaments work, including the processes involved, routines, and what the team can expect ahead of the games. They aim to do better than they did in the Olympics, which Britain won due to penalties.
