Conspiracy Theories Ahead Of FIBA Eurobasket
Milwaukee Bucks and the National Basketball Association have been accused of an elaborate conspiracy to prevent the All Star forward player Giannis Antetokounmpo from competing in the upcoming European Championship.
The NBA has strongly denied all allegations brought by Greece’s Basketball Association.
It all started shortly after Antetokounmpo recently took to Facebook and Instagram to announce that he would not be competing in the FIBA Eurobasket due to a knee injury. Antekokounmpo did not imply any foul play in his actual posts on social media, but the Greek Basketball Association immediately reacted to the statement, calling shenanigans and accusing Milwaukee Bucks and the NBA of having hatched an elaborate and extremely sly and foul plan in order to prevent Antekokounmpo from competing at the end of August.
The Greek Federation went on to say that they were saddened by the simultaneous social media announcements by both the Antekokounmpo as well as Milwaukee Bucks, and that this, more than anything, indicated foul play.
Saddened But Not Surprised
Apparently it was a series of events and indications that sparked the outrage from the Federation’s side, and not merely random posts on social media. Indications that ended up putting the player on the spot, forcing him to withdraw from the men’s national team.
The NBA responded by saying that Antekokounmpo’s injury has been confirmed by a series of examinations, and that it was the protocol under the FIBA-NBA agreement that dictated the player’s absence from the championships, not the NBA or the player’s team – and that any accusations or allegations indicating otherwise were not true.
The Greek Federation’s secretary, Takis Tsagronis, however told the press in no uncertain terms that the medical scans revealed that there was in fact nothing wrong with the Greek player’s knee. When questioned further, Tsagronis revealed that the scan that he was referring to was one ordained by Federation itself in order to gain some clarity on the matter. He also said that what Milwaukee Bucks had issued as an official statement was actually a falsity – and that something underhanded was the actual reason for the player’s proposed absence.
Antekokounmpo, currently in China to attend (but not play in) a Basketball tournament in Shangai, responded by saying that he was supposed to have re-joined Greece after his China tour in order to prepare for the FIBA EUROBASKET, but that his injury now prevented him from doing so as a result of his having missed all of the warm-up games, which in turn alarmed the Bucks.
He described the setback as the biggest disappointment of his professional Basketball career.
