Bennet Told To Stay Home After Dining Out

August 10, 2020 by

South Sydney head coach Wayne Bennett has been ordered by the NRL to “stand down and stay home” for a period of two weeks. This after Bennett was recently spotted dining with his partner at Grappa, a popular restaurant situated in Leichhardt.

Bennett has in the meantime admitted to having dined at the popular restaurant for lunch but claims to have been unaware that dining together with a person living in the same household as he, was against the bio-bubble rules of the NRL.

Though regrettable a punishment to have enforced, acting NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said that he regarded the action at the same time also “necessary”. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, said Abdo, and those include the league doing everything in its power to protect the well-being of its players, staff, and also that of the general community at large.

Bennet has also in the meantime hit back at claims made by Broncos coach Anthony Siebold, regarding his (Bennet) involvement in the planning of certain behind-the-scenes moves at his current franchise while still under contract with the Broncos in 2018. Siebold and Bennett swapped roles at the beginning of last year and have been embattled in a bitter and mudslinging rivalry ever since.

Bennett has described the latest allegations made by Siebold as being equal to “absolute bull—t”. Bennett claims to have not once grown agitated to “get out” during his time in the employment of Brisbane, adding that he hadn’t even as much as considered applying to coach the Rabbitohs until he got given the boot by the Broncos.
