Newly appointed Warriors consultant and NRL veteran broadcaster Phil Gould says that not only will he not blame struggling Broncos coach Anthony Siebold if he were to decide to step down, but also that he believes the time to do exactly that, may have arrived.
A weak and poorly-conditioned Broncos squad have won only three games this year so far – only on of which was played post season-restart. The club now faces having to make quite a few important decisions regarding its future, with several recent on- as well as off-the-field incidents having dumped the team into absolute turmoil and confusion.
If Siebold were to call it a day, Gould says he doesn’t even for a minute believe the embattled coach’s rugby career to be over for good. It may be matter as simple as now not being the time or the place for Siebold to be involved with Brisbane – especially given the team’s dismal track record the past 15 months or so, explained Gould.
The Warriors man also made mention of a club picking itself up by the straps of its boots without a change in coaching set-up being according to him a particular rare occurrence.
Gould also touched on what he referred to as “denial” among Broncos players and coaches. The only way out of the current mess now surrounding the team is if the entire club were to properly fess up to the mistakes made over the course of the past year and a half, believes Gould.
