In a stunning victory after a previous two weeks of upsets, Marc Marquez shot past his competition to take his winning place at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas. This win makes it his sixth consecutive victory in a row, which took place at the Austin Circuit.
Following in his lead was Maverick Vinales who came second, while Andrea Iannone would take third place.
For many fans who’d been following the races leading up to the Grand Prix, there was an expectation that Valentino Rossi and Marquez would fight one another for lead. This wasn’t the case at all, however, as Marquez managed to take make up the gap from his three-place grid penalty start in just half a lap.
Talking about his race, Marquez has stated, “For me, that was my strategy. Start, push, and that’s it. I didn’t have the confidence to battle, so U pushed from the beginning and tried to open a gap.”
By the time the race had started, Iannone had taken front lead, blitzing past competition, where he was able to hold his position for the first turn. It didn’t take long for Marquez to catch up, though, and during the long back straight, the Honda rider overtook the winning position from Iannone.
Despite an attempt on the long back straight of Lap 3 by Iannone, he was unable to take back the lead position, which Marquez held on to all the way to the finish line.
