Toby Price Back In Time For DAKAR 2018

Aussie Toby Price has officially been confirmed as being a starter for team KTM in the 2018 DAKAR Rally.  Price made history in 2016 when he became the very first Australian ever to win the DAKAR.  Price subsequently suffered a serious fracture to a femur when he was involved in a high speed crash in a river bed during the 4th stage of the 2017 DAKAR.

Price has since raced in various 4-wheel events but has not officially raced on a motorcycle since the unfortunate incident.  He was initially scheduled to make a come-back to 2-wheel events at the OiLibya Rally of Morocco in October of this year, but a bad fall during training preparation only served to aggravate his recovering leg.  The result was even more surgery to follow.

Whether Price would be participating for KTM in this year’s DAKAR was uncertain for a long time leading up to entries for the event.  Now it seems as if the recent low-speed fall had actually been a blessing in disguise, as Price reports feeling a lot stronger and on the fast track to recovery after a clean-up of the leg during surgery.

Price reports feeling positive ahead of the 2018 DAKAR, saying that not riding for a prolonged period of time was obviously not an ideal run-up to the event but that it was also true that nobody ever forgot how to ride motorcycle.

This year’s DAKAR will run through South American countries Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, from January 6th up until January 20th.

Mini Reveals New Secret Weapon

Meanwhile, Mini’s Team X-Raid has revealed the latest weapon in Mini’s arsenal: the newly developed Mini John Cooper Works Buggy.  The new buggy was developed in response to Peugeot’s dominance of the 2WD division of the event.

Team X-Raid manager Sven Quandt is obviously excited and proud about the new Buggy.  Development started in February of this year, with Quandt proudly pointing out that the Buggy had not once during its development phase displayed any form of technical difficulty.

The Mini John Cooper Works Rally car has also undergone significant changes with the aim of improving its overall performance.  Alterations and improvements have been made to its weight as well as its suspension systems.

The Mini John Cooper Works Rally will be driven by Spain’s Nani Roma, Argentina’s Orlando Terranova, Jakub Przygonski from Poland and Boris Garafulic from Chili.
