OEC Taipei WTA 125K Series
The OEC Taipei WTA 125K Series is unique and unusual in that it is played indoors and on carpeted court surfaces. The series is played in Taiwan and this year’s event will kick off on November 13th and will run through November 19th.
We take a look at some of the players who will be participating in the OEC Taipei WTA 125K Series come November 13th.
Aryna Sabalenka – Ranked 78th
Sabalenka (19) this year came into the Tianjin Open ranked 119th and defied all odds and expectations by making it all the way to her very first WTA final. Sabalenka stormed all over three Chinese players without a single loss of set (Han Xinyun, Duan YingYing and Zhu Lin), reaching the semi-finals. Here she proceeded to beat world no. 5 Sara Errani. The final saw her go up against Maria Sharapova, when she finally reached the end of the run when Sharapova beat her 7-5, 7-6. Definitely someone to be keeping an eye on!
Evgeniya Rodina – Ranked 83rd
Russian player Evgeniya Rodina reached her personal career high of 74 during February of 2011. She has won fourteen ITF singles so far, her very first entry back in 2004 having been a wildcard entry. and was a mere fifteen years of age at the time.
Duan YingYing – Ranked 95th
Duan YingYing is a Chinese national and reached her highest WTA rankings during April of this year. YingYing started her professional career in 2012. She started out ranked 378th but by the end of that year she had grown significantly and had reached 128th rank.
Kurumi Nara – Ranked 101st
Originally from Japan, Kurumi Nara has won one singles title on the WTA tour as well as five singles titles and three doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. In 2014 she reached a stellar career high of world ranking no. 32.
In 2007 Kurumi Nara became the first female Japanese player to win the Osaka Mayor’s cup since 2002.
Zhu Lin – Ranked 104th
Zhu Lin claimed the first top 20 win of her professional career when she beat world no. 2 Petra Kvitova 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 at the Tianjin Open. Speaking to the press afterwards, Zhu seemed notably elated, saying that it had been an amazing match to play and the undisputed highlight of her career.
Zhu also said that she had just played the match without thinking too much about winning. The strategy certainly paid off for Zhu.
