Miocic Not Afraid To Face Ngannou
Whether or not it’s true that UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic merely shrugged his shoulders at Francis Ngannou’s pounding down hard on Alistair Overeem last December, resulting in a first-round knock-out, knowing that he might very well be next, is uncertain. What we do know is that he spoke to the press shortly afterwards, saying that the very same guys that Ngannou was pounding on now, he (Miocic) had finished up two years ago.
Miocic didn’t allow any grass to grow under his feet when he made the decision to defend his title against Ngannou on January 21st, and this is probably the reason why: Stipe Miocic truly and wholeheartedly believes that he will run all over Francis Ngannou in Boston.
No Shared Values
Ngannou doesn’t exactly share Miocic’s prediction of what is about to go down at UFC220 on January 21st. He obviously draws confidence from the fact that he knocked Overeem out during the first round not too long ago.
Ngannou believes that he is the next big thing in heavyweight, so much so that he has said that he wouldn’t only be winning the fight, but would not be going at it for five rounds either. The game plan is simple as far as Ngannou is concerned: pitch up, perform another first round knock-out, go home, have a party.
A Possible New Record For UFC
Whichever way you look at it, Ngannou may very well be right. He has proved himself to be the kind of fighter that you have to get up close and personal with in order to take down. Then, once he’s down, the realisation hits: Ngannou is better on the ground than most would believe or give him credit for.
If Miocic does perform the near impossible by winning the fight, he’ll have set a new UFC record with three successful heavyweight title defences in a row. The heavyweight title belt is renowned for being one of the toughest to hold on to in all of UFC. Even if Miocic does pull off the record-defying feat, most UFC supporters are still hoping that that the chips will eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later, fall the other way. Because honestly, Miocic isn’t exactly Mr. Personality. His demeanour isn’t what you’d refer to as electrifying. He speaks in low tones and mumbles to the extent of being inaudible. Not your typical UFC-sweetheart by any measure.
But then again, a win is a win. Whether you’re liked or not.
