Geraint Thomas of Team Sky has won the latest stage of the Tour de France, pushing him ahead to the leader position of the pack. The lead, which was a tie between Chris Froome and Thomas, both who are in Team Sky, has now been decided as Thomas earns his yellow jersey.
His victory came in the form of a rallying push in the final climb of the 108km that saw the riders saw start in Albertville and coming to a finish at Lo Rosiere.
This is not the first of Thomas’ achievements so far this season, as the rider won the Criterium du Dauphine last month, and has been riding consistently well ever since, remaining at the top of the pack since the beginning of the Tour de France. Coming in 20 seconds behind Thomas in Stage 11 was 2017 Giro champion Tom Dumoulin, who managed to grab second place. Third was Team Sky and Thomas’ riding partner Chris Froome, who stayed on Dumoulin’s heel for the last part of the race.
The next three top contenders of stage 11 were Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali, Colombian Nairo Quintana, and France’s Romain Bardet. All three of them crossed the finish line at Lo Rosier 59 seconds behind Thomas. The next challenge for the riders will be Stage 12, which is one of the hardest of the Tour de France, and sees them having to ride over the Legendary Hors Categorie summits in a huge 25.3km climb.
