Tour de France 2017: Mark Cavendish Abuse Highlighted by Wife

Mark Cavendish’s wife has exposed online trolls wishing that the couple’s children would die of cancer after her husband exited the Tour de France.

The 32-year old cyclist broke his shoulder after a collision with Peter Sagan, who was banned from the Tour on Tuesday.

Peta Cavendish has highlighted the ugly comments posted alongside a video of their son, and Cavendish has requested that the disgusting social media comments come to an end.

Cavendish Gets Tweets Wishing Him Injury

Cavendish has also been on the receiving end of tweets wishing serious injury on him, and has been called a high-school bully. The cyclist has won 30 stages on the Tour throughout the course of his career, and was edged into the fencing by Sagan as riders were battling position late in the fourth stage of the race.

Some social media commenters are blaming Cavendish for the sprint-finish crash, who stated immediately after the accident had occurred that he was not impressed with the fact that Sagan appeared to elbow him. A Twitter user asked Cavendish to stop complaining about the elbow, and told him to stop hiding behind his team, since the accident was very much Cavendish’s fault. Others likened Cavendish to a high-school bully knocking people about but then raising hell when this type of behaviour was inflicted on him.

Support for Cavendish is Also in Evidence

Cavendish has, however, also received messages of support, and released an appeal on Wednesday for the attacks on him and his family to stop. He urged supporters to remember that the Tour de France was a sporting event, and that he had a family.

He went on to say that although everyone was entitled to his or her opinion, the vile nature and threats that he and his family were on the receiving end of were not deserved.

Cavendish and Sagan Have Sorted Things Out

Cavendish stated that he and Sagan, the reigning champion of the world, had sorted things out, and went on to state that he believed that the abuse he was currently receiving was due to his behaviour when he was younger.

Cavendish said that he was paying for the attitude he displayed in his younger years now, and that he understood that the backlash would never truly leave him, and that he would always have to handle the opinions of others, negative though they may be.
