While 2019 was a smash-hit for Ash Barty. She took home four titles while enjoying a brilliant ascent to No 1 and creating a win-loss record of 57-13. But she’s not taking anything for granted. She’s well aware of the importance of the Grand Slam, and hopes are high as expectations build up around her.
She is currently going through the early stages of a plan of action designed by Craig Tyzzer, her private coach. His campaign intends to have the Queenslander fighting fit for the tournament set to unfold from January 20 to February 2 next year at Melbourne Park.
Barty has stated that there should never be any assumptions about match outcomes. She said this very lack of certainty is part of the allure and beauty of the sport, that anyone can be beaten at any point in time. She said it all comes down to doing the prep work properly and then giving your all on the day of the game.
She spoke of her excitement at once again playing for an Australian crowd and trying her best once she walked onto the court. Barty said that, whether she won or lost, she knows she’ll have the full support of her native country spurring her on.
The one promise she is willing to make? That she will make every effort to live up to her fans’ hopes for her and become the first Australian Singles Champion since Chris O’Neil grabbed the title in ‘77.
