Hewitt: Bernard Tomic Unlikely To Play For Australia
With all eyes on the upcoming Davis Cup, controversy is once again rife in the world of Australian tennis, with Bernard Tomic yet again at the forefront of the controversy. The Aussie confirmed that he would indeed be appearing on this season’s edition of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’ and it will most probably be jam-packed with controversy, true to Tomic’s short career-long form.
Tomic’s crashing out of the Australian Open and his subsequent remarks about Australian tennis is the latest incident serving to burn bridges with Australian tennis fans as well as event organisers and the general powers that be. Tomic has become notorious for having the talent but not the character to go along with it.
To really drive the ball home, Tomic recently announced that his plans to appear on the popular television show included exposing the corruption within the administration of Tennis Australia. Tomic likened Tennis Australia to the FIFA Federation, saying that there were many wheelings and dealings that the general public did not know about, but that now, all would be exposed.
A Career Tarnished By Controversy
It’s not the first time that the highly temperamental 25-year old has been at the centre of controversy. After losing in the final qualifying round for this year’s Australian Open, Tomic sarcastically told reporters that he was heading home to count his millions.
Tomic has not been in good form and crashed out of the qualifying rounds for good reason. He recently dropped to 168 on the tennis world ranking list, as the result of an obvious slump in general form. Still, Tomic thinks it applicable to exclaim that Australia will not be in a position to win the Davis Cup without him on the team.
Davis Cup leader and former world no. 1 Lleyton Hewitt has said that its unlikely that Tomic will play any kind of tennis for Australia again, let alone in this year’s Davis Cup tournament. Hewitt went on to say that Tomic was digging a very deep hole for himself, one that he may not be able to ever get out of.
Hewitt is of the opinion that it will be a long way back for Tomic, if at all, as a result of all of the mistakes that he (Tomic) has made. He said that Tomic wasn’t only wasting his own time, but also that of everyone around him.
