Caroline Wozniacki Vs. Simona Halep

Caroline Wozniacki showed the true nature of her destructive form on Wednesday when she beat World No. 1 Simona Halep 6-0, 6-2.  Halep just could not seem to find her rhythm with Wozniacki.  The first set was over in just 24 minutes, with the second set looking slightly more competitive.  However, Halep still succumbed to the sheer aggression in Wozniacki’s playing style.

Speaking to BT Sport, Wozniacki said that she felt like she had done everything right, frustrating Halep by doing everything just a little bit better and that she was finally back to where she wanted to be professionally.

A defeated Halep obviously sung a different tune.  The Romanian had been hoping to finish the year ranked as World No. 1.  Halep said that she had become so eager to dominate that she ended up over-hitting the ball.  She concluded that it was in fact just a bad day and coupled with Wozniacki’s failure to miss, resulted in a disaster outcome.

Caroline Garcia Vs Elina Svitolina

It’s been a hurricane approach towards the WTA finals for French player Caroline Garcia.  The finals follows back to back victories in China and Wednesday’s stand-off with Elina Svitolina ended up proving to be not only a physical struggle but also a highly emotional affair for the French national and World No. 8.

The make or break came when Garcia was down a set and a break and had become emotional after having a received a pep talk from father and coach Louis-Paul.  Speaking to the press, Garcia said that she had not handled the pressure very well at all.  It certainly seemed to pay off towards the end result of 6-7, 6-3, 7-5.

The intense emotion certainly isn’t out of the blue as Garcia had lost her tournament opener to World No. 1 Simona Halep on Monday, and a back-to-back defeat would have spelled the end of the road as far as Singapore is concerned.

Halep said that she knew that this was basically it, that this was her last chance.  Her solution to the challenge was to try and be more aggressive as well as more accurate and on point, hitting the ball down the line.  Patience along the rallies was also key and the combination ended up paying off.

Next up, Garcia needs to beat Caroline Wozniacki on Friday, in her final Red Group match.
