Novak Djokovic proved his skill in the Arthur Ashe Stadium as he worked hard to overpower John Millman. The match proved more successful for Djokovic compared to his previous counterparts, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, as both saw the end of their time at Flushing Meadows in the now-famous stadium.
Djokovic bested Millman 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, but the 29-year-old Australian player who upset Federer did everything he could to frustrate his Serbian opponent. The trouble started in the middle of the second set, where Djokovic seemingly came under physical distress and began an argument with his team over missing pills. Millman than asked for an unscheduled break, which he used to change his clothes, as another hot night in Flushing Meadows had left the players soaked.
Despite the mishaps during the match, Djokovic’s victory means he will be moving on to the semifinals where he set to play Key Nishikori.
On the women’s side, Madison Keys has been making ground after beating Carla Suez Navarro 6-4, 6-3, and will be facing Naomi Osaka in a semifinal game. The two have met three times in the past, including this year’s French Open, and Keys has bested Osaka on all three occasions. Their most well-known face-off was in the 2016 US Open, where Osaka almost saw victory before Keys upped her game and took the match. Their upcoming game should be no less memorably as this year’s US Open proves to be full of surprises.
