Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is quickly falling into the habit of making news in all the wrong ways.
Only a month after hitting a line judge in the face whilst competing in the U.S. Open, the tennis top seed repeated the stunt at Roland Garros playing in the French Open. Though this time clearly by accident, the Serbian isn’t exactly forging friendships on the world’s courts.
While ripping across the clay in an attempt to chase down a shot during his super-win over Karen Khachanov from Russia, a wildly swinging racquet returned the ball smack-bang into the head of a caught-by-surprise match official. Djokovic immediately launched into an apology for what he later described as a moment marked by “awkward déjà vu”.
The top tennis seed from Serbia has this year been dominating sports news headlines – but mostly not for special achievements in sport. He did however, following his unacceptable behaviour at the US Open, undertake to check his actions, declaring himself to have learnt quite the lesson.
Djokovic has been attracting a whole lot of criticism over his obvious inability to face up to his faults and apologise without each time also coming up with a ton of excuses for his actions. This has happened every time his wonky character has gotten called out on as well as away from the court. He’s even been referred to by respected rival Rafael Nadal as a player incapable of keeping his anger and frustration in check.
