Nick Kyrgios was set to make his first appearance since the Australian Open in New York but regretfully made the recent announcement that his shoulder issues flaring up have rendered him unfit to play.
He has only recently made a reappearance in the World Top 20 Rankings for the first time since August 2018 after his fourth-round match in the Australian Open. He lost to top-seeded Rafael Nadal but climbed his way back into the shortlist of the finest players on earth.
The six-time Association of Tennis Professionals sports association champion is now likely to play his first tournament since the AU Open at Delray Beach, set to unfold from the 17th of February to the 23rd, instead.
Now in its 28th year, the Delray Beach Open will be bringing some of the biggest names in the Men’s Tennis world to the Florida town. It is the only tournament in the world that is a combined ATP Tour and Champions event and fans can look forward to seeing all their favourites smashing their way to success on the courts.
And, for the first time in the tournament’s history, there is a female exhibition game lined up, and one set to feature Delray’s Beach very own Coco Gauff. Supporters will recall that the last time we saw her, Gauff more than gained her revenge over Naomi Osaka, the defending champion, when she executed a splendid straight sets upset in the Australian Open’s third round.
