Nadal Sees First Wimbledon Quarters In Seven Years

July 11, 2018 by

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are both closing in on the Wimbledon final as the international event winds down to the last few matches. The two have seen some of their strongest seasons yet, and have moved into the last eight.

Federer’s match against French Adrian Mannarino lasted just 16 minutes, in which Federer was able to find success with a set of 6-0, 7-5, and 6-4, elevating him to 16th place in the All England Club quarter-final. Nadal, who is currently the world number one, has reached his first quarter final in Wimbledon since 2011 after winning against Jiri Vesely with 6-3, 6-3, and 6-4.

Federer and Nadal both have yet to drop a set, with Nadal’s latest win moving him into the 35th Grand Slam quarter final. Nadal told reporters that it was an important victory as he hadn’t been this far since 2011, and that it was an important moment for him. Nadal has seen almost a flawless season so far, having made four consecutive quarter-finals in majors for the first time in over five years.

Nadal will now be up against either Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro, who is currently fifth seeded, or Gilles Simon from France, who is unseeded at the moment. Nadal has a 10-5 victory record over del Potro as well as an 8-1 over Simon. The coming matches may see Nadal reach the final games of Wimbledon, and another possible title to his name.
