Federer, who is currently the world’s No 2, has been playing well in recent weeks, despite his loss in the Cincinnati Open final against Novak Djokovic. Federer, who took a much-needed break after Wimbledon before switching back to the hard courts, is hoping to find more success this year at Flushing Meadows. A win for him would mean earning his 21st Grand Slam title.
The Swiss player has his eye on a sixth title in New York, and while he’s long been dominating all games on hard and grass, Federer hasn’t seen success on clay since the 2009 French Open. And while many see Roland Garros as one of the most difficult tests for any player as far as Majors are concerned, Federer believes differently, and maintains that the US Open is a massive challenge.
Federer told reporters that although he hadn’t done well in the last two US Opens he played due to health problems, he feels that he has a real shot this year. He explained that he feels this year’s event may be one of the toughest to win, and that everyone plays well on the hard courts, making it that much more difficult for him.
Current reigning US Open champion, Rafael Nadal, has just begun his title defence against David Ferrer. When asked for his feelings on the draw, Nadal had nothing but praise for his new contender, and is looking forward to their bout on the courts.
