Will Andy Murray Return To US Open?

August 24, 2018 by

The US Open is just about ready to start, and will be taking place at Flushing Meadows, in New York City. The official seeding list has been released so far, but there is one player whose appearance at the US Open is still in question.

Andy Murray has not played in a Grand Slam since he lost the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, but has been playing at some smaller tournaments, namely those in Washington and Cincinnati.

The 31-year-old player won three matches in the Citi Open that took place in Washington, but lost in Cincinnati to Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

According to Murray’s team, the player will be returning to the US Open this year, and has seemingly recovered from his previous injuries. In his absence, his world rank has dropped down to 378th, but he will be able to play at Flushing Meadows due to his protected ranking.

Murray remains unseeded for the event, and his current odds of winning sit at 25/1, partly due to the fact that the player has not participated in the last four Grand Slam events since his injury.

Former British champion Greg Rusedski has told reporters that he believes that Murray has done incredibly well so far considering he’s undergone both back and hip surgery during his absence. While there are doubts that Murray will make it to the end of the tournament, his protected ranking has given him the chance to try.
