Fabulous Fillies Headed For Quezette Stakes
Each year only the cream of the 3 year old fillies crop head for Melbourne to compete in the Quezette Stakes during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. This year is no exception, with a field of fit fillies competing either for the first time after having stepped up in class, or even as a means of making a return after a period of absence.
This year’s Quezette Stakes will be taking place on August 13.
Well On Their Way
This week Tuesday saw a party of eight three year olds running a 1000m trial race at Cranbourne, with Lindsay Park fillies Catchy, Formality and Tulip kicking dust in the faces of their male race mates. Trainer David Hayes did not seem a bit surprised, saying that the fillies had done what he had expected they would do and that there really wasn’t much of a difference between them – they all ran exceptionally well.
Two of the three stars had trialled well at Flemington – with Formality having had a bit a of a slip. Never one to have her enthusiasm curbed for very long, the filly returned to Cranbourne stronger and fitter than ever.
Catchy too, handled the track well and Tulip ran a stunning trial.
Catchy is a classified Group One Blue Diamond winner and she will be running first up at the Quezette Stakes, with Formality and Tulip heading out to Sydney. One of the two will be competing in the Golden Rose, and the other in the Flight Stakes.
Catchy will remain in Melbourne after the Quezette Stakes, and will most probably be moving on from the Thousand Guineas to the Caulfield Guineas where she will be taking on the boys too.
New Beginnings For Crown Witness
Meanwhile in camp Stuart Webb, its none other than Crown Witness who will be given a chance at Stakes grade after the prize filly retained her unbeaten record at Flemington in the Winter Lodge Handicap.
Webb said that Crown Witness would be heading to the 1100m Quezette Stakes next – but that he had a strong suspicion that the filly wasn’t limited to being purely a short-course sprinter.
He went on to say that Crown Witness was a filly quick on her feet and that he thought that she was going to perform brilliantly around the track at Caulfield.
Crown Witness is known for being quick to the line – most probably one of her strongest assets and certainly one that will be on display at Caulfield.
