In a move that is a first for the famous event, FIFA has been offering fans a chance to be the centre of attention at the latest World Cup, which is being hosted by Russia.
Phillipe Le Floc’h, the Chief Commercial Officer of FIFA explained to reporters that FIFA believes the FANS are the heart of FIFA, and that they are happy to be starting the new initiative that should be taking place during matches as the 2018 World Cup progresses. He went on to add that the initiative has the potential to create a unity amongst all fans, no matter which teams they supported, and that fans are the key to the success that FIFA has seen over the years.
Dubbed the ‘Fan Movement’ by FIFA, the initiative involves roughly 400 people so far, each coming from one of the 40 different countries that are participating this year. The chosen fans will be a mixture of supporters, coaches, amateur players, freestylers; anyone that has a passion for the game and The World Cup.
Other events included in the initiative are the Wish Campaign, which is aimed at Chinese fans, and the Fan Match, a meet-up that will see a number of random fans meeting up in pairs during the course of the World Cup.
FIFA has been hard at work modernising the World Cup, allowing for greater access for those that are watching from abroad, including its own social media accounts covering the action.
