Rugby Australia chair Hamish McLennan says he’s frustrated by the ongoing tensions between his organisation and New Zealand Rugby. The relationship between the two organisations is the poorest it’s ever been, McLennan said on a popular Kiwi rugby show.
Presently at the center of the unhappiness is a highly dissatisfied New Zealand Rugby over the possibility of some of its players spending Christmas Day away from their families as a result of a contentious Rugby Championship schedule. Since Sanzaar has the championship’s final round scheduled for Sydney on December 12, the arrangements leave precious little room for the possibility of Kiwi players making it out of the bubble in time for a Christmas Day spent with family and friends.
New Zealand Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson has since receiving the schedule from Sanzaar, accused Australia of failing to see all the way a through a commitment to have NZ players back home in time for Christmas. He seems convinced of the fact that his own organisation has had no control over the matter, and as such, isn’t to blame for the scheduling disaster.
McLennan has in the meantime expressed his unhappiness with a situation he’s described as “a bit messy”, and said that he remains hopeful that the situation around the schedule will in fact sort itself out before worst comes to worst and New Zealand decides to boycott the final December 12 Bledisloe Test. Such a thing would be an absolute tragedy for the game itself, explained McLennan.
