Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has been appointed the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Allen has spent the last 7 years with the Saints, and replaces the now-retired Sean Payton.
Allen is an experienced NFL head coach, having previously served in the lead position with the Oakland Raiders. During his tenure with the Raiders between 2012 and 2014, he managed to accumulate an 8-28 record.
But with the 2021 NFL season drawing to a close, Allen isn’t the only one transitioning into a new role.
After 12 seasons in service of the Atlanta Falcons, director of pro personnel Steve Sabo has announced that he’s leaving the franchise. Sabo said his decision had been made as part of a mutual agreement between himself and General Manager Terry Fontenot.
Meanwhile in the land of the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel appears to the favourite for the role of head coach. With the Dolphins trying to replace the fired Brian Flores, they appear to be looking to McDaniel as the number 1 fix for their many problems.
McDaniel, 38, was appointed wide receivers coach in 2015 by the Falcons. During the 2016 NFL season, he helped the Falcons reach Super Bowl LI where they eventually fell 34-28 to the New England Patriots.
The Falcons, in the meantime, have appointed Michael Pitre as their new running backs coach. Pitre most recently worked for the Chicago Bears as running backs coach.
