Pegasus World Cup Around the Corner
The Pegasus World Cup is not your typical horseracing world cup event. Entering your trusty steed will leave you a cool $1 Million out of pocket. The prize money purse is $12 Million fat, making the Pegasus World Cup the richest horse race in the world. It has even surpassed the Dubai World Cup, which used to be the record holder as far as prize money went. The race is open for entries to horses 4 years old and upward.
Half-way through December, only 9 of the 12 available spots to compete had been sold. However TSG’s Tim Ritvo has said that he remains confident that all 12 spots will have been sold by the time the event rolls around on January 27th. He added that the remaining 3 spots would be marketed as last-minute additions to the event.
Seeking The Soul Charles Fipke’s Sole Entry
Charles Fipke has confirmed that he will run but a solitary horse in this year’s Pegasus World Cup. The lucky contender? Clarke Handicap winner Seeking The Soul. Multi-millionaire Fipke had initially planned on purchasing two spots for the event: one for Seeking The Soul and the other for Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Forever Unbridled. He has however since changed his mind and has decided to purchase only one entry instead.
Trainer Dallas Stewart has confirmed that running Seeking The Soul was Fipke’s decision and that a lot of consideration had gone into Fipke’s ultimate decision about who to run. Jockey John Velazquez, who had rode Forever Unbridled to victory in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff has confirmed that he would be riding Seeking The Soul in the Pegasus World Cup and that he was very happy at being able to do so. Velazquez reportedly likes Seeking The Soul, which ultimately turned out to be yet another selling point.
Stronach Committee To Review Final Three Horses
The Stronach Group has announced that it is in the process of reviewing the final three spots that it has purchased for its own horses for the upcoming Pegasus World Cup. The need for a review has arisen as result of various companies having contacted the group in order to try and secure one of the remaining spots.
The Group has said that if a spot were to be made available to one of the buyers, the decision will be based on the merit of each case, the viability, the horse that will be entered, etc.
