2018 Pro Bowl Selections Announced

The 2018 Pro Bowl will be played at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium in Florida come January 28th and the official roster was released recently.  This year’s announcement isn’t exactly riddled with any unexpected inclusions or surprises, a testament to the fact that hard work pays off.

We take a look at some of the more notable selections.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have, not surprisingly, had three of their best in defence included in this year’s Pro Bowl roster.  This makes for 12 straight years of three or more Ravens players being included in selection.  C.J. Mosley, Terrell Suggs and Eric Weddle are this year’s inclusions and in each instance, it’s not really difficult to see why.  Mosley is one of only two NFL players to have racked up at least 115 tackles.  As for Suggs: 11 sacks.  The numbers speak for themselves.  And then there’s Weddle, probably the number 1 reason why the Ravens have been leading the league in takeaways.

Carolina Panthers

For the Panthers, its Luke Kuechly, undisputed tackling machine.  He leads the team in tackles for the 5th time in 6 seasons.  Kuechly was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and still manages to impress as we head into 2018.

Cincinnati Bengals

Two Bengals are in: A.J. Green and Geno Atkins.  Admittedly it hasn’t been the best season for Green.  Still, he still has a chance to complete the 6th 1000 yards season of his career.  He currently stands at 980 yards and 6 touch-downs for the season.  Green made the Pro Bowl last year as well, despite having missed out on 6 games during the season.  Considering that, there wasn’t actually a way that he wasn’t going to make it this year.

Atkins leads the Bengals and is a boundary-pusher in more ways than one.  He recently managed 2 sacks whilst playing against the Vikings despite having played with a badly injured toe.  He is without a doubt one of the best overall players in his position.

No surprises here, then.

Houston Texans

For the Houston Texans, it will be DeAndre Hopkins and Jadeveon Clowney doing the honours at this year’s Pro Bowl.  Hopkins currently leads the NFL as far as receiving touchdowns go, with a stellar 12 under the belt.  As for Clowney, it’s a grand old mix up of 50 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss and 20 quarterback hits.

Impressing numbers, impressing players.  And really, what else did we expect from Houston?
