Washington Redskins In Good Form

A strong running game and aggressive defence – this was the winning strategy for the Washington Redskins when they played the Rams in Los Angeles a little more than a week ago, and it certainly held its efficacy against the Oakland Raiders too.

Washington on Sunday managed a 27-10 victory over the Raiders, providing the final chapter to an eventful day’s worth of first class Football.  Some are even going as far as to say that the Redskins have finally rediscovered their identity after an almost overly careful NFL season start.  They literally battled through pre-season and got whacked by the Philadelphia Eagles during Week 1.  They had been coached that a very physical attack and nothing short of a rush would have to be employed, but the Redskins had seemingly lost their running legs.

The Rams were the first sign of better things to come, but a solitary win is oftentimes a fluke.  However, Sunday’s victory confirmed: the Washington Redskins are back, better and stronger than ever before.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders received a grand old punch in the mouth.  The Raiders, notorious for running the ball and making use of a trio of ball carriers to do so – well, just didn’t.

Dallas Cowboys Vs. Arizona Cardinals

Close your eyes for a minute after Monday night Football and you can almost see Dak Prescott hoisting the Cowboys onto his broad shoulders and carrying them to a much-needed victory.  Two touchdown passes and a heroic run for a third was what catapulted the Dallas Cowboys to a 28-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

The Cowboys’ defence was on par, sacking Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer no less than six times and disallowing the Cardinals by holding them to the 49 yard mark.  Running back Ezekiel Elliott ran 22 times for 80 yards and the reward of a touchdown – thus putting a growing controversy behind him after his admittance that he had not been up there as far as effort had been concerned in the stand-off with and ultimate loss against Denver during Week 2.

Elliot had been perceived as loafing and not that into it when he failed to make use of both interceptions thrown by Dak Prescott during the loss at Denver.  In fact, Elliott had simply looked on as two of his teammates tried to make a tackle.  When questioned about the strange and seemingly lazy behaviour, Elliott had admitted that he had become frustrated.
