Six NFL Winning Streaks Cut Short
Eight teams went into 2017-18 NFL Week 3 with records of 2-0, and only two emerged on a perfect 3-0. The other six all fell victim to shock upsets, which is all the evidence Australian online sports betting enthusiasts need to remind them how volatile American football can be. Odds-on status in the betting never guarantees a win.
With three months to go before the playoffs, it’s unlikely any team will survive without a single loss anyway. The Baltimore Ravens blew their chance of a perfect record at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, losing 44-7 to Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams are now on 2-1, and the Jaguars will play the New York Jets this Sunday, while the Ravens face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers were also 2-0 after Week 2, and heavy favourites at the top of the AFC ladder on Sunday, but they went down 23-17 to the Chicago Bears. The Bears are now 1-2, and they play the Green Bay Packers, on 2-1, on Friday night.
Broncos, Raiders Also Lose Unbeaten Status
The Denver Broncos were at 2-0 and odds-on to beat the Buffalo Bills, but the Bills turned the tables on Sunday and inflicted a 26-16 defeat, which brings both teams to 2-1. This week, the Broncos will face the Oakland Raiders, another side that ended its 2-0 streak on Sunday night.
The Raiders lost in a 27-10 upset to the Washington Redskins, bringing the DC team to par on 2-1. The Redskins play the Kansas City Chiefs this Monday.
Chiefs and Falcons on 3-0
The Chiefs are one of only two teams that remain undefeated going into Week 4. The Kansas City outfit beat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-10 on Sunday, putting the LA team on a disheartening 0-3. The win left the Chiefs in undisputed first place on the AFC ladder.
In the NFC, the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions also suffered their first defeats of the season: the Panthers lost 34-13 to the New Orleans Saints, and the Lions went down 30-26 to the Atlanta Falcons. This Sunday, the Panthers play the New England Patriots, while the Lions face off against the Minnesota Vikings, with all four sides now on 2-1.
The win against the Lions left the Falcons on 3-0, unbeaten at the top of the NFC ladder. They’ll have to beat the Buffalo Bills this Sunday to keep that record intact.
