NFL: Raiders Cling on with Dolphins Win

The final two games of Week 9 in the 2017-18 NFL produced road wins for the visitors, and left online sports betting punters with some interesting what-ifs as the season develops.

In Sunday’s final game in Miami, as coach Jack Del Rio had been exhorting them to all week, the Oakland Raiders finally got back their mojo. The Miami Dolphins had plenty of heart at home, but struggled on defense, and were eventually shut out 27-24.

The loss leaves the Dolphins on 4-4, with a game in hand because of their bye-week start to the season, so they’re still seventh on the AFC ladder in the hunt for a wild card. The Raiders, now on 4-5, are ninth on the AFC, so their hopes of turning around a disastrous opening to the season are still alive, albeit a long shot.

Lions Beat Packers in MNF

Monday Night Football was fairly tame in comparison. The Green Bay Packers never looked like they were the superior side at home to the Detroit Lions, and the visitors ran in a comfortable 30-17 victory. It was the Packers’ third loss in a row.

The Lions will be relieved to have broken their three-game losing streak, thanks to great work from quarterback Matthew Stafford, who ended on stats of 26 of 33, after passing 361 yards and delivering two touchdowns to Marvin Jones, one of them off a 25-yard pass.

The win puts the Lions and the Packers level on 4-4 each, which after Week 8’s results, leaves five NFC teams briefly on level records: the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals are also on 4-4.

Coming Up in Week 10 Games

The Lions play the Browns on Sunday, and with the Cleveland side 0-8 so far this year, Detroit, now lying second in the NFC North division, should be favourites in the betting. Lying second-last and last in NFC North, the Packers will be trying to stay ahead of the 3-5 Chicago Bears in their Sunday match. Betting sites are likely to favour the Packers to break their streak.

The Raiders get a bye in Week 10, but the Dolphins have a mountain to climb playing away to the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. The Panthers lie fifth in the NFC on 6-3, and they’re odds-on at $0.25 and under to beat the Dolphins, at $3.30.
