Andrew Hore, the chief executive for the Waratahs, who was directly involved with the departure of Israel Folau, is currently in talks with rival Super Rugby side the Blues. A few days after Hore unveiled their new head coach, fellow New Zealander Rob Penney in Tokyo, it has been revealed that the former Osprey boss and New Zealand director has been in negotiation with the Auckland franchise.
A spokesman told reporters that there were conversations between the Blues and Hore, but hat it had not progressed any further than that. It has been reported, however, that Hore had been a number of local candidates to take the role. He would be replacing Michael Redman, who had announced his departure from the club in late July after six years in the lead. The role has been on advertisement at a number of sports management recruitment suits in recent months.
Hore’s leaving after three years would be a blow to an organisation that is currently dealing with some turbulence, with new coaching still be finalised amid some off-field challenges. Hore has been working for the Waratahs for three and a half years, and in that time he managed to find new stadiums for the teams while their home ground, Allianz Stadium, is under construction. Hore also led the team through the difficult Israel Folau controversy – which is still being seen to by the courts – a case that looks as though it will drag on into the 2020 Super Rugby season.
