Ashley-Cooper Added To Wallabies Team

October 31, 2018 by

Wallabies veteran player Adam Ashley-Cooper has recently been added to the Australian training squad that’s set to head out to Japan, giving the player a chance to see game time again after an absence of two years.

The utility back’s last appearance for the Wallabies was also his 116th in a 29-9 defeat by the All Blacks in August 2016, and Ashley-Cooper suffered a concussion, and was subbed off fairly early into the game.

Recent injuries to Tevita Kuridrani and Reece Hodge have forced coach Michael Cheika to look for replacements, and Ashley-Cooper is the first so far, who has been preoccupied with club rugby in Japan with All Blacks star Dan Carter at the Kobe Steelers. Cheika told reporters that Ashley-Cooper would begin training with the team so long, giving them idea of where he stands.

This comes after their latest defeat at the hands of the All Blacks, where they lost 37-20 at in Yokohama, Japan, for the last iteration of this year’s Bledisloe Cup. It’s been marked s the ninth loss against the All Blacks in the last 12 years, and many are calling for Cheika to resign. Ashley-Cooper’s return would see him as the only other Australian, apart from George Gregan, to play in four Rugby World Cups, if he makes the selection during his training and test process.

The Wallabies are now getting ready to head out to Wales, Italy, and England where they will be engaged in a number of November Tests.
