Mel Meninga, the coach for the Kangaroos, has released the full list of his star-studded team that will be taking part in the World Cup 9s. Fans can expect the likes of Clint Gutherson, Tyson Frizell, Mitchell Moses, and Kalyn Ponga, all of which have been named for the 16-man squad. NRL runners Josh Addo-Carr and Ryan Papenhuyzen are also notable players that will be included in the team, meaning that the Kangaroos will have a strong side for the upcoming match, at least on paper.
Meninga has also said that he is excited to some a few new faces wearing the green and gold jumper. Talking to reporters, Meninga said that it was an exciting squad of players and that he can’t wait to see what they can do with the current format. He added that they had some experienced representatives for the team, but also a number that hadn’t represented for Australia in the past, and that it will be fantastic to see them on the stage. Lastly, he added that the nines is a fantastic innovation and that his group of players has been picked with this form of the game in mind, but also with a view of seeing what many of them will be able to do.
England has also named their team for the tournament, where Dragons enforcer James Graham has been given the role of captain, along with Elliott Whitehead and Ryan Sutton.
