Brumbies Coach Claims Rugby Demise Is Over The Top

May 14, 2018 by

Australian rugby has been taking some hits lately, especially after the New South Wales Waratahs loss against Blues on home ground. The was just another win against Australia, with New Zealand teams beating besting their opponents 38 times in the last season. The series of losses for Australia has caused many believe that rugby in the country is coming to an end. First-year Super Rugby coach Dan McKellar doesn’t believe this to be the case at all, and has told reporters that that rumours of Australian rugby’s demise have been exaggerated.

In a statement to reporters, McKellar said that the only way for the rumours to begin losing their grip was for Australian teams to start winning again.

“I think it’s over the top. The Waratah’s game could’ve gone either way. Our game could’ve gone either way. I was really proud of our effort, the last chance we had against a New Zealand side. They’re certainly shutting out and winning those moments in games that are proving to be important, but I’ m sick of talking about it.”

Raelene Castle, the boss of Rugby Australia, told reporters after this week’s performance was, “not acceptable, but could see improvement.”

Castle went on to say, “The history of this sport in this country is that that’s not acceptable and it doesn’t deliver you the fans and the commercial outcome that you’re looking for.”

Castle believes that the choice to cut off Western Force from the season from last year will ultimately have a long-term positive effect on Australian rugby.
