Rory Kostjasyn Forced Into Retirement By Injury

Let’s not beat around the bush: the Newcastle Knights have become accustomed to setbacks – and now face yet another one: the premature retirement of hooker Rory Kostjasyn.  Kostjasyn had not even the opportunity of playing a single game for the Knights.  This on the back of an injury sustained during a pre-season training session – leaving his airway in a narrowed state.  Multiple surgeries were done in an attempt to reverse the effects of the injury, but without much success.  Kostjasyn has labelled it impossible to continue playing with the reduced airway – saying that his body was seemingly unable to adapt to the changes.

Kostjasyn began his NRL career in Melbourne in 2010 and has since played one hundred and twenty six games.

Rory reminded players to be grateful for every opportunity to be running the field, saying that early retirement as a result of injury was the last thing that he had expected – and was the last thing that any player expected.  Players always recognized that it could happen – but mostly just to someone else.

Kostjasyn said that the worst part of it was that the injury was sustained during an everyday defensive training session.  Initially it was expected that he would miss out on only the first six weeks of the year’s NRL season, but it soon became apparent that the situation was much more dire than how it appeared to be at first.  The Knight deemed the last seven months to be the toughest of his entire life – and to add insult to injury, it effectively ended his career.

Knights Confirm Signing Utility Connor Watson

The Newcastle Knights has been going through a period of serious re-structure and this is gathering increased levels of momentum.  Matt Gidley officially announced the signing of utility Connor Watson on Monday, praising Watson to be an exciting young talent with a great Football career ahead of him.  He seemed confident that Connor would be an asset to camp Knights.

The signing has taken place on the back of Watson’s request for an early release from his contract with the Roosters.  The 21 year old has cited the reason for his request as a need for extra game time – and the Roosters have conceded.

Watson scored a sterling try during last week’s game against the Knights – and is looking forward to joining Newcastle in the 2018 NRL Season.
