The woman accusing NRL star Jack de Belin of sexual assault has testified before a court that she remains unable to sleep at night even now – nearly two years after the alleged incident took place.
De Belin (29), along with co-accused Callan Sinclair (23), have both pleaded “not guilty” to all five charges of aggravated sexual assault brought against them. They are currently standing trial for the alleged offences at the Wollongong District Court.
The charges all relate to an incident alleged to have taken place at a North Wollongong residential unit on the morning of December 9, 2018. Both men have claimed the sexual interactions to have been fully consensual.
The legal defense of de Belin and Sinclair, David Campbell SC, has apparently provided the court with CCTV footage indicating several discrepancies in the women’s version of the supposed events that took place during the early hours of the morning in question. The woman as however replied by saying that she could not recall every single detail about an attack that happened almost two years ago.
One particular section of the footage shows the woman queuing in line at a night club together with Sinclair and de Belin. The video clearly shows the woman tapping Sinclair on the arm before walking off. Upon being questioned by Campbell regarding the intent of the action, the woman responded by saying that though she was not able to bring to memory the tapping of Sinclair’s arm, she could she from the footage that this had in fact happened.
