Callum Hudson-Odol claimed a stunning second half goal that pushed his team of Chelsea into the last 16 of the Europa League, beating Malmo at Stamford Bridge. The Blues, who were leading 2-1 from the first leg of the tournament, started to show serious improvements from the start of the second half.
Olivier Giroud initially gave them the lead before Ross Barkeley floated a kick not long after Rasmus Bengtsson was sent off of the field. 18 year old Hudson-Odol then came in from the right before firing off his kick late into the third.
It seemed that using the Sarri-ball tactics, which is based on possession and methodology, it seemed that Chelsea were going to be let down once again by the end of the first half. Malmo put up a strong defence, and put Chelsea under severe pressure from the start of the game. The Blues defaulted to their strengths by dominating possession, something they’ve done throughout the season. After the break, Malmo’s defence started to crumble, allowing Chelsea to claim their first open goal.
It’s yet to be seen whether their latest victory will see less pressure on Blues manager Maurizio Sarri, who has been worried about losing his position as manager. Their next two matches will be bigger tests as they prepare to take on Manchester City for the Caraboa Cup, and then Tottenham for the Premier League as the season begins to wind down over the next few weeks.
